I played this in memory of Michael Jackson, who is my all-time #1 musical inspiration, at Magfest 8.
What you are hearing is Michael Jackson’s original Thriller in one ear, and my own NES chiptune cover of Thriller in the other, with a tiny bit of bleed-through. The mash-up effect is a little jarring at first, but hopefully you will be amused by it when you hear things lining up. When I made the cover years ago, it never occurred to me to try this; I just did A/B comparisons a measure at a time, and got the details as close as possible by ear. This was the first time I’d ever heard the entire thing played in sync, and I just sat there for a while staring into space, thinking hard about lots of serious things.. before hitting play again and doing the “zombie hands” dance the whole way through.
I enjoyed hearing this at mag, even though i couldn’t really hear all the different times stuff matched up. Awesome that you released this! Now i can!
Yes! Fun! Good work! Thx for sharing.
Whoa, that’s impressively accurate. Good work.
Seriously, where were you when they made Moonwalker? You have done an immensely better job than the original developers did…
Now if you can rip the vox and mix them in the chiptune, You’d rank up there in the “Epic” category!
One day, you should totally do a Sega Genesis style Thriller cover.
I like, I like! It’s awesome possum! Totally rad and a bag of chips.
Insightful post=D Going to want a bit of time to think about the info=D
Cool, man! Awesome work!
What version is this? I remember a differenct cut. But the job with reproducing the song is amaizing. Attention to details is what I also do when remaking songs.
This sounds amazing! Thriller happens to be my #1 favorite song of all time, and your cover didn’t disappoint.
