Lorem Ipsum

Posted by virt on April 23rd, 2009 filed in Demoscene, Music, Music Release, Original (Full Production) Songs

I wrote this as my entry for Blockparty 2009’s Music competition, in which it won first place. It’s supposed to be a “placeholder” theme song for a futuristic anime series with a sort of apocalyptic vibe. This is my first released song using Yamaha’s VOCALOID2 software, and also my first “singing choir” using Quantum Leap Symphonic Choirs, which I bought in 2006 but still hadn’t really explored. It’s incredible, as you can hear. The lyrics are also available. For anyone who doesn’t know what “Lorem Ipsum” means, read this for an explanation!

Nice work. Dig the Vocaloid stuff. Wouldn’t mind hearing more of it.

Haha excellent tune! After all the endless sea of bandwagon crap that she’s been spewing out lately, it’s about time someone with REAL skill made Hatsune Miku interesting to listen to again.

  4. matt Says:

Good stuff, Jake! Congrats on your first place win.

  5. Ominiq Says:

And today I actually thought of the combination virt + Hatsune. Strange coincidence, but I can live with it if it sounds like this!

    Great guitar solo! <3

Wow! This use of Vocaloid is superb! You don’t happen to have some “tutorial vsq’s” to share with those of us that can’t seem to get past the uncanny valley in V2?

  8. Gemma Says:

That pretty much blew me away. Something about Vocaloid stuff is quite haunting, and very interesting to hear it in this kind of song.

Damn virt, this is exquisite. For years I have been walking around cursing the world for the lack of new, good music and then suddenly I just stumble in on your website to find a dozen of breath taking pieces.
This one was the one which impressed me the most. I must have listened to it at least 20 times by now and I’m not planning to stop. Your melodies are always original and never similar to anything that I have ever heard. I love the chord progression, especially at around 52 seconds, but overall the arrangement and structure of the song just amazes me. Great work and thank you for bringing this to my speakers.
By the way, we have spoken before, long ago on IRC. I think I used the nickname WhiteEdge, brother of another guy you know unless he’s lying about it. Pleasure to hear your music again.

I just finished listening to this and all I have to say is: WOW!

Seriously, dude, I’m not surprised this won at all. Even given the bias I have, I haven’t (and don’t think I can) listened to any of the other entries. But, that aside, I have to say that this would have most likely been my favorite, hands down.

Keep doin’ what you do best man, it’s awesome. ^_^

(and yes, I do realize that I’m posting a little more than a month since the last post, but I don’t care. It’s that awesome!)

I really want to get into scoring video game music. I started out playing bass and picked up guitar. A friend at berklee showed me your stuff man it’s amazing.

Got any tips for anyone starting out!? I’ve got so much to learn about composing…I guess I could transcribe your stuff to learn…Man such beautiful melodies in this song! It’s brilliant!

Oh I picked up EWQL Silk and SD2, trying to get used to using them through Logic 8 :/
