MY FREQUENCY IS 140.85

This is the first release on which I’m using EWQL Symphonic Orchestra samples, and the last on which I’ll be using BFD drums and my Ibanez RG220b. I’m retiring both in favor of Drumkit From Hell Superior (regular and custom/vintage) and a beautiful Schecter 007 (scroll down on that page for pics). I’m planning to convert the Ibanez into a MIDI guitar in the near future.

    Big, long time fan.
I love my Schecter, and DFH:Superior.
What you do with them both is also great. No great surprise to me though.

Another big, long-time fan, especially of your NES chiptunes. Out of all the music I currently own, nothing gets me more pumped up than FX 2.0 on full volume. It’s the only thing that’s kept me from careening into ditches on all my long solo night drives back and forth from home to college. Chiptunes save lives!!!

That aside, a request: Once you’ve thoroughly messed around with it, could you write up a little something on what you think of the Midines? I’m really really REALLY interested in getting my hands on one, and it would be great to see what you think of it, as others would agree I’m sure.

    Keep doin’ what you do.

W00t! More Progrock goodness! Thank you ViRt, I like every note of this one. ^_^

  4. Rize 18/06/2005 09:06:34

Sounds fantastic. I think you should have won the DoD but at least it was very close. goat also did an excellent job (although his non-guitar parts were inferior to yours). I’m still trying to get used to the way you go into the MGS theme. The crescendo’s on those horns followed by the stops are a bit jarring. I think the horns just get a bit too loud. The strings section after that makes up for it though.

And you just can’t keep your big mouth shut can you? You always have to sneak some vocal work in these days ;)

So when are you going to reremix Contra? That would sound wicked with a live guitar.

  5. The Tackle 20/06/2005 06:06:04

I agree with previous guy, reremix Contra with that Schecter of yours, go meshuggah on it :) (not necessarily, but remix nevertheless).

And you know what you made me do? I’ve never even heard of Schecter’s line of guitar EVER before. Yet, in 10 days I’ll be getting my Schecter C-1 Classic.

    Like, thanks alot!

BUG! on the arrangements page, this song is called ‘metal gear!’ rather than it’s true title. fix this at once before i sic powerlord onto you

(i refuse to even listen until you fix it)

  7. L-Dub 21/06/2005 05:06:25

Arrangements like this make me wonder why I don’t ever see your name at Overclocked Remix. A fanbase would be QUICK to build around you there…

The get-up-and-holla, “Metal Gear(!)” groove starting at 5min drew a smile across my face. It talked to to me very much, indeed (, as did the ending). :)

  8. virt 21/06/2005 06:06:07

dude, i WAS at ocr. in fact, i was one of the earliest people to contribute music there after djpretzel changed it from his personal music post into a community site. my fan following and circle of friends there are what gave vgmix.com its momentum, and the fact that their community is not my speed (to put it VERY lightly) is what caused me to start my own arrangement site in the first place.

unless you want a real eyeful, it’s best not to mention my name around there. many ocr people (many whom i haven’t even met) think i’m the antichrist, mostly because of folklore handed down over the generations about the circumstances of my leaving. i’m happy here, at vgmix, and in your gameboy. and maybe in your cd player or on your movie screen some day.

  9. yose 23/06/2005 04:06:07

the section at 4:38.. it’s PERFECT for an anime-like transformation scene.. it gives me piloerection just imagining it.. hahahaha

other than that, this is top notch, awesome!

  10. Synth 23/06/2005 01:06:25

I think this is one of your best works yet. The drum programming at 4:41 is amazing, and I love the section afterwards, the synth bass is genius.

You know you could be making the big bucks if you put a section on your site offering your music skills for a price.

Anyways keep up with this and you’ll go far.

  11. Zambo Ace 23/06/2005 06:06:52

    Kaaahhn!

  12. Tenchu 25/06/2005 05:06:22

You make me want to learn the guitar lol

  13. DoctorBlackJack 25/06/2005 11:06:12

It’s stuff like this that make me wanna scream, “pleaze tab!!” but I won’t >< I love the piano build up at the beginning =D

  14. shawn phase 28/06/2005 06:06:31

all the love in the world for you brother. you get better and better with every tune. you are _the_ true innovator, the single one i look up to most out of the current video game musician hierarchy. i hope to see you again very soon.

  15. Peeves 01/07/2005 03:07:15

I love your stuff and I would really like to play some of it..If you ever get time you should try and tab the guitar on Crystal Flash its amazing great job, keep it up

  16. Tansunn 01/07/2005 06:07:55

Awesome song, as usual. Unfortunately, when I had my parents send me a CD with MP3s of a crap-ton of your songs, this wasn’t released yet, but I’ve got it on a portable MP3 player now so it’s all good.

I agree with The Tackle and Rize when they say you should redo your Contra remix with real guitars, and I would like to further add that if you redid ASPIRE with real guitars and updated synths and stuff, I’d probably have an eargasm while listening to it.

  17. Rize 05/07/2005 01:07:44

Remaking old stuff is nice, but at what cost? Would you trade a new mix for a remake of an old one?

  18. ckain 11/07/2005 07:07:21

I hate how this song ends. That “snake are you alright, snake!!” just sucks hard. The game over theme is faded in the back of this crap, and that just blows!!

  19. virt 11/07/2005 01:07:20

    thanks for the constructive criticism!

  20. Mork 12/07/2005 06:07:20

I have followed your music since 1999? maybe a little later. Can’t remember but its been a long time. I stumbled across a midi tune on the net called “supreme evil” or “ultimate evil” or something (or both. I think in email you told me the name in the liner notes wasn’t correct. My memory sucks. anyways). Found your name in the file notes and have been checking out your arrangements ever since from time to time. But I learned something new recently. You are a great guitarist too. I had only thought of you as a keyboardist.

I’m a musician.. but have since decided I am a “musician”. Gee thanks. Keep up the great work.

  21. The Tackle 29/07/2005 09:07:15

hey virt, how are you liking those new orchestra samples? I gotta say when that solo violin kicks in in this song it sounds friggin awesome, and very realistic. what’s the rest of the sounds like?

  22. Josh Whelchel 03/08/2005 10:08:17

I am an extremely large fan of yours, and I’ve been following you for quite some time. I quite like Sexperation, actually. Excellent guitar work here, as always, and your mastering is also quite amazing.

Anyway, I have EWQLSO on my wish list, is this Gold or Platinum being shown off here?

Thanks, and keep up the amazing work,
    Josh

  23. Elrinth 05/08/2005 08:08:53

    Hi!
This one r0x.. Definatly yer best mp3!
The violon reminds me of Zelda Twilight Princess ;)
Boy do I love your key solo. Very nice leads with the guitar tho! ;)
    LoL @ ending.

  24. Joe Cincotta (Zenmaster / Pixolut + Knob Tweekaz) 07/08/2005 10:08:02

This tune I just LOVE! Its a real journet – production is smooth as GOLD! I always loved your chip tunes and this tune was the first non-chippie I ever heard from you. Shows the gifted muso you are! Will stay tuned.

  25. klaus (xerxes) 26/08/2005 12:08:14

    Virt!
You never stop to amaze me with your incredible skills. Not just technically, but the music.. THE MUSIC, its first class. This is your game, you’ve won :) Lets hope the prize money is good!

    Love,
    Klaus

  26. Wan Zafran 28/08/2005 05:08:01

    Virt,

This was amazing. An email of compliment is on its way to you now.

  27. Skutarth 28/09/2005 09:09:29

This is some of the best music I’ve ever heard… and I’m not just talking about video game arrangements! The brass building starting at 1:37 is truly masterful.

  28. Todd 01/10/2005 09:10:00

    Virt,

what version of EWQLSO do you have? Sounds good no matter which version you have.

  29. virt 04/10/2005 08:10:41

    gold!
i may get platinum someday when i can throw a rack of 8 PCs at it :) but thanks!

  30. SolidSwede 16/10/2005 12:10:46

Yeah I need to send this to someone that just might like what you have done to the songs…. :)
    Sounds great!

  31. ckain 22/10/2005 08:10:53

Okay virt. What I posted earlier was kinda lame. I meant that the game over theme in the song was the one of the best guitar arpeggios I had ever heard. Facing that with the fact that it was silenced by something else got me mad. :P

Anyways, nice song if I havn’t made that clear yet.

  32. Capt. Jean-Luc Pikachu 25/10/2005 10:10:18

I don’t have the words to express how much this song rocks. Thank you.

  33. Gerri 29/01/2006 07:01:57

Great song, but the ending vocals ruined it.

  34. shadow3121 28/09/2007 06:09:55

real nice, but im still hooked on crystal flash.. tabs?! like, even if its just for the accoustic-sounding qwicky part, or the first three mins, i dont care… powertab, too… cant find good tabs for metroiid music, stemage tabs SUCK…..

  35. tim 10/10/2007 10:10:33

brought tears to my eyes. so great. epic. incredibly epic.

  36. elemonator 19/01/2009 01:01:40

Excuse me if I just didn’t read this somewhere, but is this from The Return of GAIA?

  37. elemonator 19/01/2009 01:01:07

    or something like that?

  38. elemonator 19/01/2009 01:01:23

ok so some or all of it is from the snake games but what is the beginning from?

  39. Игорь Меньшиков 21/06/2009 10:06:17

Интересно было почитать :) Попробуем-с тоже ответить в ближайших постах.

  40. Zeino 25/06/2010 07:06:37

So freaking awesome man. Ive loved the MGS music for some time now. Actually, I was in a band and we did something similar, but you do it so much justice.

  41. shadow3121 07/09/2010 02:09:13

Damn man, this is sick, I found “Crystal Flash” a long while ago, and I’ve been wondering if you had any other work, I could just never find any of it. I’m so glad to have found all this…
Mind you, I’m a HUGE fan of Schecter guitars, I’ve had mine for a couple years now and I have yet to find one guitar that I prefer above it. Awesome taste in guitar, and awesome composing ability in your music, wow. I’m a fan of the guys at OCR, but after reading about your experience with them… eh…
I’m immediately a huge fan of yours. Keep rockin’ it man, I’m lovin’ it.

  42. virt 07/09/2010 02:09:13

Dude, yo.. Thanks for the compliment, you rock. I do indeed love the Schecter, for a while I was irritated that the low B wobbled a lot and was buzzy, but I went and got it set up with a bass string in the low B position, and it’s brutally tight now, prison wardens and lesser daedra cry when I strum a power chord.

As for the OCR guys.. it’s a different scene than it was all those drama-filled years ago. A lot of the best talent is there, and I’m lucky to have made good friends out of a lot of people with whom I didn’t see eye to eye — DJP and I long since grew up and hugged it out like Vikings.

After all the good they’ve done for a hobby which gets us all funny looks from strangers, I can’t help but love ‘em like family.

    ROCK!
