MY FREQUENCY IS 140.85
Posted by virt on June 15th, 2005 filed in Videogame Music ArrangementsThis is the first release on which I’m using EWQL Symphonic Orchestra samples, and the last on which I’ll be using BFD drums and my Ibanez RG220b. I’m retiring both in favor of Drumkit From Hell Superior (regular and custom/vintage) and a beautiful Schecter 007 (scroll down on that page for pics). I’m planning to convert the Ibanez into a MIDI guitar in the near future.

Big, long time fan.
I love my Schecter, and DFH:Superior.
What you do with them both is also great. No great surprise to me though.

Another big, long-time fan, especially of your NES chiptunes. Out of all the music I currently own, nothing gets me more pumped up than FX 2.0 on full volume. It’s the only thing that’s kept me from careening into ditches on all my long solo night drives back and forth from home to college. Chiptunes save lives!!!
That aside, a request: Once you’ve thoroughly messed around with it, could you write up a little something on what you think of the Midines? I’m really really REALLY interested in getting my hands on one, and it would be great to see what you think of it, as others would agree I’m sure.
Keep doin’ what you do.

W00t! More Progrock goodness! Thank you ViRt, I like every note of this one. ^_^

Sounds fantastic. I think you should have won the DoD but at least it was very close. goat also did an excellent job (although his non-guitar parts were inferior to yours). I’m still trying to get used to the way you go into the MGS theme. The crescendo’s on those horns followed by the stops are a bit jarring. I think the horns just get a bit too loud. The strings section after that makes up for it though.
And you just can’t keep your big mouth shut can you? You always have to sneak some vocal work in these days ;)
So when are you going to reremix Contra? That would sound wicked with a live guitar.
June 20th, 2005 at 6:19 am
I agree with previous guy, reremix Contra with that Schecter of yours, go meshuggah on it :) (not necessarily, but remix nevertheless).
And you know what you made me do? I’ve never even heard of Schecter’s line of guitar EVER before. Yet, in 10 days I’ll be getting my Schecter C-1 Classic.
Like, thanks alot!

BUG! on the arrangements page, this song is called ‘metal gear!’ rather than it’s true title. fix this at once before i sic powerlord onto you
(i refuse to even listen until you fix it)
June 21st, 2005 at 5:56 pm
Arrangements like this make me wonder why I don’t ever see your name at Overclocked Remix. A fanbase would be QUICK to build around you there…
The get-up-and-holla, “Metal Gear(!)” groove starting at 5min drew a smile across my face. It talked to to me very much, indeed (, as did the ending). :)

dude, i WAS at ocr. in fact, i was one of the earliest people to contribute music there after djpretzel changed it from his personal music post into a community site. my fan following and circle of friends there are what gave vgmix.com its momentum, and the fact that their community is not my speed (to put it VERY lightly) is what caused me to start my own arrangement site in the first place.
unless you want a real eyeful, it’s best not to mention my name around there. many ocr people (many whom i haven’t even met) think i’m the antichrist, mostly because of folklore handed down over the generations about the circumstances of my leaving. i’m happy here, at vgmix, and in your gameboy. and maybe in your cd player or on your movie screen some day.

the section at 4:38.. it’s PERFECT for an anime-like transformation scene.. it gives me piloerection just imagining it.. hahahaha
other than that, this is top notch, awesome!
June 23rd, 2005 at 1:15 pm
I think this is one of your best works yet. The drum programming at 4:41 is amazing, and I love the section afterwards, the synth bass is genius.
You know you could be making the big bucks if you put a section on your site offering your music skills for a price.
Anyways keep up with this and you’ll go far.

You make me want to learn the guitar lol
June 25th, 2005 at 11:58 pm
It’s stuff like this that make me wanna scream, “pleaze tab!!” but I won’t >< I love the piano build up at the beginning =D
June 28th, 2005 at 6:10 am
all the love in the world for you brother. you get better and better with every tune. you are _the_ true innovator, the single one i look up to most out of the current video game musician hierarchy. i hope to see you again very soon.

I love your stuff and I would really like to play some of it..If you ever get time you should try and tab the guitar on Crystal Flash its amazing great job, keep it up
July 1st, 2005 at 6:10 pm
Awesome song, as usual. Unfortunately, when I had my parents send me a CD with MP3s of a crap-ton of your songs, this wasn’t released yet, but I’ve got it on a portable MP3 player now so it’s all good.
I agree with The Tackle and Rize when they say you should redo your Contra remix with real guitars, and I would like to further add that if you redid ASPIRE with real guitars and updated synths and stuff, I’d probably have an eargasm while listening to it.
July 5th, 2005 at 1:49 pm
Remaking old stuff is nice, but at what cost? Would you trade a new mix for a remake of an old one?
July 11th, 2005 at 7:41 am
I hate how this song ends. That “snake are you alright, snake!!” just sucks hard. The game over theme is faded in the back of this crap, and that just blows!!
July 11th, 2005 at 1:28 pm
thanks for the constructive criticism!
July 12th, 2005 at 6:44 pm
I have followed your music since 1999? maybe a little later. Can’t remember but its been a long time. I stumbled across a midi tune on the net called “supreme evil” or “ultimate evil” or something (or both. I think in email you told me the name in the liner notes wasn’t correct. My memory sucks. anyways). Found your name in the file notes and have been checking out your arrangements ever since from time to time. But I learned something new recently. You are a great guitarist too. I had only thought of you as a keyboardist.
I’m a musician.. but have since decided I am a “musician”. Gee thanks. Keep up the great work.
July 29th, 2005 at 9:08 am
hey virt, how are you liking those new orchestra samples? I gotta say when that solo violin kicks in in this song it sounds friggin awesome, and very realistic. what’s the rest of the sounds like?
August 3rd, 2005 at 10:36 pm
I am an extremely large fan of yours, and I’ve been following you for quite some time. I quite like Sexperation, actually. Excellent guitar work here, as always, and your mastering is also quite amazing.
Anyway, I have EWQLSO on my wish list, is this Gold or Platinum being shown off here?
Thanks, and keep up the amazing work,
Josh

This tune I just LOVE! Its a real journet – production is smooth as GOLD! I always loved your chip tunes and this tune was the first non-chippie I ever heard from you. Shows the gifted muso you are! Will stay tuned.

Virt,
This was amazing. An email of compliment is on its way to you now.

This is some of the best music I’ve ever heard… and I’m not just talking about video game arrangements! The brass building starting at 1:37 is truly masterful.
October 1st, 2005 at 9:13 pm
Virt,
what version of EWQLSO do you have? Sounds good no matter which version you have.
October 4th, 2005 at 8:26 am

Yeah I need to send this to someone that just might like what you have done to the songs…. :)
Sounds great!
October 22nd, 2005 at 8:24 pm
Okay virt. What I posted earlier was kinda lame. I meant that the game over theme in the song was the one of the best guitar arpeggios I had ever heard. Facing that with the fact that it was silenced by something else got me mad. :P
Anyways, nice song if I havn’t made that clear yet.
October 25th, 2005 at 10:23 pm
I don’t have the words to express how much this song rocks. Thank you.
January 29th, 2006 at 7:07 am
Great song, but the ending vocals ruined it.
September 28th, 2007 at 6:59 pm

So freaking awesome man. Ive loved the MGS music for some time now. Actually, I was in a band and we did something similar, but you do it so much justice.
