Guerrilla War – Overthrow
Posted by virt on February 16th, 2005 filed in Videogame Music ArrangementsGuerrilla war is one of the most underrated NES soundtracks I’ve ever heard, and I knew that i had to arrange it for a DoD compo, despite its obscurity and unnecessary length guaranteeing defeat (I got 5th). You probably won’t like it if you’re not a Guerrilla war fan (it drags on a bit) but this game had to be given a metal treatment.

This was one of the few songs I grabbed during the voting period, because yes, I actually do remember the soundtrack to this game. It’s nice to see it appreciated by somebody of your talent. What I’d really like to see is a remix of Iron Tank now, another SNK game of that era…
(preferably in the style of an overblown orchestral war movie score…but I’d take what I can get)

Hey, just wanted to let you know that Overthrow is probably my favorite prog-rock arrangement you’ve produced to date. I started off thinking it wasn’t all that great, and feeling that it’s placement in that month’s DoD contest was fair. However, in the following months, this beast of a mix has grown to dominate the time I spend in front of my computer listening to music. It’s hands down my favorite virt arrangement, and I loved it so much that I began to play Guerilla War for the NES for the first time since I was a little kid. Man, what an awesome game. I can’t believe I forgot all about it! Me and my little brother are completely hooked on the 2-player, though I must admit that playing 1-player is so much more involving and strategic. Awesome game with great tunes. Thanks for this song and thanks for reminding me of one of the better action games of the NES era not made by Konami. And about that DoD where this didn’t get first? You got robbed!

I just arrived at DoD yesterday… im so amazed with the works there , i have been searching for a site like that all my life.
Virt, ur talent and the way u arrange old songs into new ones is simply out of this wolrd.IM really really impressed. IMO u are one of the best in DoD, ur technique and ur clean touch is marvelous.
About Overthrow, i REALLY dont know how u lost that contest…When i listened tghis song , i really got sad, a lot of memories of my childhood returned, and i remembered this wonderfull WONDERFUL game. IMO one of the most funiest shooters ever created , and is very sad that this game has been lost in time. The song is like the Guerrila WAR OST but like a million times better….. man im really touched with this remix of yours,,, simply astonished.

Indeed this is one of the most underrated soundtracks on the NES! I heard this at my friend’s house and this was playing in the background. I was like “Guerilla War? What the hell? Who’s playing that like a beast?”. Well, I should’ve known it was you. I’m glad someone of talent has done this justice. Now on to P.O.W.! That also is a largely underrated soundtrack.
