New Site, New Design, New Music!

Well well, what do we have here?

virt.vgmix.com has needed an overhaul for a long time, and I’ve always felt weird about using my personal subdomain as a central “hub” for all of my different activities — game music, arrangements, chiptunes, albums, and whatever else. Also, it was running an old, rickety version of Wordpress hacked into a custom design I made in 2001, which was just impossible to maintain.

SO: I registered a separate domain and reimplemented the entire functionality of the site as an extended Wordpress theme, with a similar backend design to VGMixes 1 and 2. It’s about 10 times easier to find music now, with categories, tags (still adding them, not done yet), and text searching. The blog system is fully integrated with the music system so I can post new songs to the front page and the archive simultaneously (before, it involved jamming stuff into MySQL by hand).

In case you’re wondering, yes, this is practice for VGMix. Upcoming development work will probably screw the server regularly, so I bought supplemental hosting elsewhere, decoupled from the VGMix machine. Getting my coding chops back up, practicing with templating. Incorporating my personal music database into Wordpress was quite a learning experience.

So .. Welcome to Big Lion Music, my new base of operations!

Yeah, despite never being a Nintendo type (Atari, woo!), I have to say that the little NESdeck certainly feels /missing/. ;)
