New life, Magfest, 2006 news!

I’ve upgraded WordPress to the latest version, and installed a plugin that SHOULD rid us of comment spam. Spent a couple of hours today cleaning up the mess. Just didn’t have time before; sorry if your comments were flooded out by spambots. Sorry also if you’ve contacted me recently and I haven’t responded. I read everything, I promise, but the past few months have been insane. Now that I’m settled in, you might have better luck getting a response if you write again.
I’m loving my new job. It’s a perfect challenge (read: extremely difficult), and leaves me enough time to do anything I want on the side. VGMix development is continuing, with some gigantic improvements coming up, and home life is superb now that we’re living in our own place.

Now, on to business: CREATIVE OUTPUT
Magfest M4 was an incredible success. It was, following the trend, the best year yet. My one regret is that I didn’t spend enough time with the Shizz dudes, but the concerts were incredible, people flew in from all over the world, and I made new friends. Thanks to everyone who rocked out with us, and if this is your first time at my site, welcome!

Here’s the cartoon short I played at my panel/presentation/Q&A session. It took 5 weeks to produce, because I’m an awful animator. But if you watch the previous year’s, you’ll see I’m at least less awful than last year!

Finally, a couple of tidbits:

  • A few portfolio additions. Check my Handheld section to see what I’ve been up to recently on the freelancing front. I’m updating the whole Handheld section with more categorized links, too.
  • I’m hard at work on a set of live chiptune (NES, GB, TG16) music that I hope to play at shows in NYC in the future. I’ve even prepared a couple of SUPER HOMOEROTIC GAMEBOYS!!!
  • Kwakfest!!! Dracula Man X2 Alpha Turbo – This was one of the tracks we played at Magfest this year. The premise is: What would happen if CAPCOM made a Castlevania game instead of Konami? This is the most derivative song I’ve written since Marry Me Dale.

    Hey!
Man, if I want to participate to MAGfests, I have to go all the way to the US? Damn the French!
Well, I won’t comment on the stuff here because I’d only be paraphrasing everyone else on the “wow-ness”.
I’m just dropping by to say good luck with VGmix.

You’re actually quite good with the Flash work! I know there’s tons of animators out there who’d love to have your skills. Might I say that you have a superb wit, too.

Thanks for posting the midi. I arranged it a bit differently if you care to check it out: http://www.walterstevenson.com/works/music/castlevania/dracurock.mp3 … nothing too special, but thought you might get a minor kick out of somebody else fudging your work!

Holy hell, that rules! What did you use for that? The synthesis sounds so crisp and clean, lots of nice single-cycle chip waves. And yes, I’ll ever stop getting a kick out of arrangements of my stuff. Thanks! :)

I know I’m a little late, but DraculaMan X2 is awesome. Please make more in that style.
