Magnetis
Posted by virt on June 30th, 2009 filed in GeneralMy friend Romain “Nino” Gauthier was the Audio Supervisor while I worked at Gameloft. He is one of the most passionate game makers I know, and has the sort of talent which attracts other talented people to work with him. Makes sense, then, that he started his own game development studio and is making a game involving magnetism!
Paris-based Yullaby has been climbing the ranks since 2006, and they are very close to releasing an awesome-looking puzzle game on WiiWare called Magnetis. It has a really cool mechanic and an incredible soundtrack by Nino himself. Check it out:

Support startup developers! Keep an eye out, or check back here often; I’ll announce as soon as it’s through Nintendo approval and released to the public.

The arrangement of the Mangetis’ trailer sounds very Virt-ish. :)
The game itself seems reminiscent of Dreamcast puzzle games, sounds definitely cool !
Bonne chance à vous, les gars !

I take this as a compliment (but maybe Jake won’t haha:). He’s a very inspirational dude to be around! And I won’t deny that he had a (very positive) influence on me and my music!

Hahaha, I was so positive it was a tune from Jake ! Well kudos to you, sir, I truely like what you’ve done ! I had doubt on the other game soundtrack, Hole, and thought it had a Virt kind of chords evolution…Am I wrong again?
In any case, that studio’s taste for music is tremendously good, keep on the good works !

The inspiration for Hole was clearly François De Roubaix and Bach. :)
“But alors you are frèènch ?”

Hahaha! Well, I think saying Nino’s stuff sounds “virt-ish” is more a compliment to me than to him. Dude has an incredibly slick, polished sound. I’m constantly amazed by it, and it has made me think about my own production very frequently.

(French people inside, beware! ^^)
I didn’t think of François de Roubaix, but he’s quite an inspiration, and a very good one ! (Now that I think of it, his heavy use of arpeggios almost sounds chiptunesque ^^)
Keep on bleeping, gentlemen !
