E3, Concert, French

Hi! I’m sitting in the bar area in the Sheraton Gateway, trying to kill six hours before my red-eye back to Newark. So I’ll write about the past week, which has been one of the finest in recent memory.

For starters, E3′s reputation as a shock to the senses is well-deserved, but I heard it was much worse last year. I’m glad, because I wouldn’t have been able to take it. I saw many awesome things, but I’ll leave the writeups to professionals.

I was there with my company, Gameloft, and spent most of the time with my intimidatingly talented Parisian and Quebecois counterparts, Romain and Mathieu, and our other work buddies. We had company meetings early in the week, and then rocked out at E3. My show on Tuesday was a total success, and I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity.

During the week, I hung out with SO MANY PEOPLE. Basehead, Mustin, Dale North, Mazedude, The Wingless, Zyko, Arcubalis, Atooi, Pyro (the dude who started my entire career!), Antony and Pete (the dudes who made Legend of Kay!) and various other new and old friends. Between the show, Santa Monica, Long Beach, and Hollywood, we were all over the place, and it was all incredibly therapeutic. I could write a book about all the fun we had: ”How to Good-Bye Depression: Go Los Angeres with Very Friends”

So, I’ve been thinking. I stupidly neglected to make and hand out business cards, and I’m long overdue for a nice clean website for the promotion of my freelance career. I love this site, but it’s obviously personal stuff, and there’s so much music just laying around that potential clients have nowhere to start. Besides, they’d probably end up listening to bubble bobble a cappella first, and be all “Forget this idiot, why did you send me here?”

I guess, then, this means another entry on my truly epic list of junk to do. Yay!

Dude, totally wish I had been there. I love seeing your career explode like blue thunder.

But more importantly, I had a dream about you, me, and mp “table-sledding” down a hill in charlottesville last night while screaming the sfx from mario kart.

    Scary. I loved it.

Well, I wish I’d checked your site earlier (haven’t been here forever, I’ll admit). I’m a QA tester for Crave Entertainment, and was at E3 on Wendesday. Would have been neat to finally meet you after all these years, even though I know we haven’t really corresponded recently.

While I’m here, how have you been lately? I’m glad to see you’re still having fun with your music. Wish I could say the same for mine, but sadly I haven’t had much motivation to pursue either that or my other creative endeavors for a few years now. I want the process to be fun, but too often when I try to get back into it, it feels too much like work. And it’s not for a shortage of music ideas; I just have little drive to realize them now. I really hope that changes someday.

Anyway, enough about me. Best wishes and continued success to you. >^.^

Argh, my sigline got cut off due to my smiley messing things up. =P This is Beat, in case you didn’t derive that from my posted name… not sure if you remember me or not.

Heh. Was just reading the first email you ever sent me, back in ’98. Wow, I’d forgotten all the things you’d said in that. I think it’s safe to say that the roles have totally reversed now — your music, both in quantity and quality, never ceases to just totally amaze me. You’re a brilliant star! And if I ever get back into composing, it’s gonna be very hard for me to avoid comparing myself to you all the time… personal weakness, I’ll admit right there.

You know… I’d still be open to the possibility of some kind of co-op sometime. Perhaps it could help get me back into the spirit… who knows?

    Take care, Jake.

I like the Mario Kart game because it is more challenging as you get to the next level.,;-
